Srinagar, 27 Aug: Amid rise in H1N1 cases in Delhi, Kashmirs prominent pulmonologist Dr. Naveed Nazir has advised people in Kashmir not to panic but to remain cautious, particularly those travelling between Delhi and Kashmir.
“There is no need to panic. Respiratory infections or seasonal influenza usually begin around October in Kashmir. However, since many people travel between Delhi and Kashmir, we need to take precautions,” Dr. Nazir said.
He advised people developing symptoms such as fever, cough, chest pain or dizziness to take precautions similar to those followed during the COVID-19 pandemic, including wearing masks and maintaining hand hygiene.
An advisory issued in the public domain has also urged people to maintain proper hand hygiene, use masks when required and remain alert to symptoms associated with influenza, including fever, cough, sore throat, body ache and breathing difficulty.
The advisory and Dr Nazir’s remarks come against the backdrop of a rise in influenza activity in Delhi. The national capital has reported With Delhi reporting 138 fresh H1N1 cases in the last 24 hours, taking its 2026 tally to 2,446.
Health authorities have advised vigilance as seasonal influenza activity increases, while stressing the importance of early attention to people developing symptoms and appropriate preventive measures.
