Bandipora, June 21: The two-day District Tennikoit Championship Bandipora 2026 commenced on Saturday at SK Stadium Bandipora, bringing together around 150 players from 12 schools and four clubs across the district.
The championship is being organised by the District Tennikoit Association Bandipora under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan with the objective of promoting sports and encouraging youth to adopt a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. Competitions are being held in senior, junior and sub-junior categories.
Chairman Doon International School Jammu, Gh. Nabi Tantray, was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Ex-DDC Arin, Gh. Mohiuddin Rather, and Brand Ambassador of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Padma Shri awardee Faisal Ali Dar were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the participants, Tantray lauded the organisers for conducting such championships in Bandipora and providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent.
He said that sports offer immense opportunities for youth and urged participants to continue playing to remain physically fit and stay away from drugs and other harmful habits.
The organisers said the championship aims to identify and nurture sporting talent while spreading awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle among young people.
From this championship, a team will be selected to represent Bandipora district in the upcoming UT-level Tennikoit Championship scheduled to be held in Srinagar.
The event will conclude on June 22 with the finals and prize distribution ceremony.
