Ray of Hope: Mirwaiz Welcomes Supreme Court’s Stay on Waqf Amendments

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the Supreme Court’s interim stay on the controversial Waqf Act, 2025 amendments, calling it a “ray of hope” for Muslims who see the apex court as their last resort for justice.

We hope the apex court revokes this biased and excessive Act against the interests of the vast Muslim community,”

The Supreme Court has issued an interim stay on key provisions of the Waqf Act, 2025 amendments, responding to over 70 legal challenges and nationwide protests. The stay halts new appointments to Waqf boards and bars any denotification of Waqf properties under the controversial ‘waqf by user’ clause until May 5.

The decision comes after violent demonstrations, especially in West Bengal, where three people reportedly died. Opposition parties have slammed the amendments for infringing upon the rights of the Muslim community, citing the inclusion of non-Muslims on Waqf boards and the scrapping of ‘waqf by user’ provisions.

The next hearing is scheduled for early May._(NewsEye)
