MLA Bandipora Backs Youth Arrested under UAPA, Calls Him Reformed

Days after Bandipora Police arrested eight members of proscribed separatist organisations in connection with multiple UAPA cases, local MLA Nizamuddin Bhat defended one of the arrested persons, Tahir Ahmad Mir.

In a post on X, Bhat wrote:

Tahir Mir an educated , potential youth has since joined mainstream . Son of a police martyr he is active in electoral politics . He is in police custody . Worthy SSP well knows his credentials as a reformed person and may overlook what is spread as a canard.”

Tahir Ahmad Mir, son of Late Habibullah Mir and resident of Ward 2, Plan Bandipora, was among the three persons arrested in connection with Case FIR No.04/2024 under the UAPA Act of PS Bandipora. Police said he is affiliated with the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Hurriyat JK.

The arrest was part of a broader crackdown across Bandipora district to curb terrorist and secessionist activities. —(NewsEye)
