LG Sinha Defends JKAS Transfers: ‘Never Overstepped My Limits’

Soon after 46 MLAs of the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir expressed dismay over political and administrative implications of the recent transfer of 48 JKAS officers by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, LG Sinha on Friday said that all actions have been carried out strictly within the constitutional framework laid down in the J&K Reorganization Act, 2019. The Lieutenant Governor, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, ” I want to make it absolutely clear — the Parliament passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act in 2019, and I have acted entirely within the domain defined by that Act.” I have never overstepped my constitutional boundaries.I am fully aware of my jurisdiction and responsibilities. I have never violated them, nor will I ever do so.’ Pertinently, soon after the “emergency meeting” of the alliance partners called by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah ended NC’s Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, accompanied by Congress leader and MLA Bandipora Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, addressed the media. “Today’s meeting focused on key issues, including the Waqf Bill passed in Parliament. This Bill is against Muslims and minorities in the country, and we oppose it. Another critical issue was the mandate given by the people of Jammu and Kashmir to the NC-led government. We have once again demanded that the Government of India respect this mandate—it is non-negotiable. These two resolutions were unanimously passed today,” Tanvir told reporters. “Centre should not misconstrue our cooperation as weakness. We are making this appeal for the last time—not as a request but as a firm warning: Do not push us to the wall, ” he added—(KNO)

NC, Cong Slams Waqf Bill as Anti-Muslim, Mirwaiz Remains Under House Arrest

In a day marked by defiance and deepening distrust, the ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir issued a direct warning to the Government of India—urging it to stop interfering in the region’s democratic affairs and to respect the people’s mandate. The message was loud and clear: enough is enough. Chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, over 40 MLAs from the National Conference and Congress met at the Deputy CM’s Fairview residence to respond to what they termed “Delhi’s deliberate attempts to undermine J&K’s elected government.” The immediate trigger? The controversial transfer of 48 JKAS officers by the LG administration. “This is not a request but a final warning,” said NC Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq. “Do not push us to the wall. Respect the people’s will. We won’t remain silent anymore.” Congress MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat added, “From bureaucratic overreach to religious encroachment, the alliance is united in resistance.” A major flashpoint raised during the meeting was the recently passed Waqf Bill, which the alliance called “anti-Muslim and a direct assault on minority rights.” Two unanimous resolutions—rejecting the Waqf Bill and demanding the Centre honour the electoral mandate—were passed. Meanwhile For the Second consecutive Friday, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest, barred from delivering the sermon at Srinagar’s historic Jama Masjid. The Anjuman Auqaf called it “state-sanctioned fear of the Jama Masjid.” In a hard-hitting post on X, Mirwaiz wrote: “Another Friday, another house arrest. Jama Masjid phobia continues. After the Waqf Bill, it won’t be surprising if permits are needed for Muslims to pray or even be buried.” Between legislative overreach and religious repression, J&K’s political and spiritual leaders seem to be aligning on one message.

“50 MLAs Ready to Fight For Transfers, Forgets Article 370” Waheed Para

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed Parra has criticized the ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, questioning its stance on key political issues In a post on X, PDP MLA Waheed Parra as per news agency JKNS wrote, that a party that once appointed its own Sadr-e-Riyasat and Prime Minister is now focused on Tehsildar appointments instead of fundamental rights. He remarked that political priorities have shifted drastically, reducing discussions to bureaucratic matters rather than addressing the implications of August 5, 2019. He further pointed out that while 50 MLAs have united over KAS transfers, they failed to resist the abrogation of Article 370. He criticized the approach of surrendering political ground and expecting reciprocal facilitation, arguing that stronger political decisions—such as appointing an independent Advocate General, nominating MLAs, and upholding the 370 resolution—could have ensured better control over governance. Parra also questioned the alliance’s stance on historical and legislative issues, stating that failure to uphold the legacy of July 13 and making the Waqf Bill a rhetorical issue weakened their political bargaining. He highlighted the contradiction of the same cabinet now complaining about bureaucrats it had justified during a month-long assembly session. His remarks come at a time of heightened political activity, with the CM-led alliance meeting underway to discuss governance and electoral strategies in the region. (JKNS)

In his reply to the debate, Union Minorities Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said there is no place in the world safer than India for minorities and they are safe because the majority is entirely secular. He said even minuscule minority communities like the Parsis are safe in India and all minorities here live with pride. “Some members have said that minorities are not safe in India. This statement is completely false. There is no place safer than India for minorities. From Pulpits, Posts & Henna, Palestine Echoes Across Kashmir on Eid

As Kashmir celebrates Eid al-Fitr, the festivities carried a deeper message of solidarity with Palestine. From historic Eidgahs to local mosques, special prayers were offered for the people of Palestine, with Imams urging the global community to stand against oppression. Social media was flooded with Eid greetings mentioning Palestine, while young girls expressed their support through intricate henna designs writing “Palestinian” and featuring “flags”. The celebration became a powerful reminder of Kashmir’s shared pain and unwavering support for those facing injustice. As we bow in gratitude this Eid, let us not forget those whose celebrations are drowned in suffering. The people of Palestine endure unimaginable hardship, yet their faith remains unshaken. It is our duty to stand with them, in our prayers, in our voices, and in our actions. A Imam said in his semon. A unique expression of this solidarity was seen among young Kashmiri girls who, instead of traditional Eid henna designs, inscribed “Palestine” on their hands and drew Palestinian flags. This silent yet powerful gesture symbolized the unwavering bond between the two regions. This Eid doesn’t feel complete when our brothers and sisters in Palestine are suffering. Our prayers, our thoughts, and our voices will always stand with them, Watching little children die every day, their tiny bodies wrapped in shrouds, torn apart by bombs—it scratches the heart, leaving wounds that never heal. How can we celebrate when innocence is being massacred? said Zainab Ahmad, a Srinagar resident. Social media platforms turned into a canvas of resistance, as Kashmiri netizens flooded their timelines with Eid greetings intertwined with messages for Palestine. Almost every post carried hashtags, prayers, and calls for justice, reflecting the deeply ingrained support among Kashmiris for the Palestinian cause. Kashmir and Palestine share a history of struggle. Today, as we celebrate, we also remember those who are struggling for their freedom, The routine disturbing images from Palestine of children orphaned, families torn apart, even there eid celebrations turned into mourning do not let us rejoice the way we used to. How can we celebrate fully when our brothers, sisters, and their little ones are being slaughtered Mohammad Younis, wrote on social media. The Palestinian people have faced relentless violence, displacement, and destruction, particularly in Gaza, where Israel’s military operations have resulted in unprecedented civilian casualties. Since October 2023, Israeli airstrikes and ground assaults have killed over 30,000 Palestinians, the majority being women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. More than 70,000 have been injured, and essential infrastructure—hospitals, schools, and residential buildings—has been reduced to rubble. The United Nations has repeatedly warned that the situation is edging toward genocide, with famine looming as Israel continues to block humanitarian aid. As the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza worsens, Kashmir witnessed a wave of pro-Palestine demonstrations on the last Friday of Ramadan, observed globally as Al-Quds Day. The protests, held across various parts of the region, were meant to express solidarity with the Palestinian people. However, in Kashmir, what began as peaceful demonstrations soon led to legal action, with several protesters reportedly booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Authorities have yet to disclose the number of individuals charged, but the move has sparked concerns over the shrinking space for political expression in the region. Despite global outcry and mass protests, the Israeli bombardment of Gaza persists, marking one of the deadliest and most prolonged assaults in modern history.
