Sajad Lone lashes out at NC, says it is indistinguishable from possible BJP speech

Srinagar, Mar 03 (KNO): Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Monday lashed out at the National Conference over Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s speech, saying it is indistinguishable from a possible speech. In a post on X, Lone, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the LG’s address is indistinguishable from a possible BJP speech, had they been in power. “There seems to be total ideological overlap,” he said, adding that the speech doesn’t even remotely talk about Article 370, Article 35 A. “No mention of 5 August 2019. No mention of reorganisation Act,” he said. The LG’s speech is drafted by the elected government to outline its policy and achievements. The NC government has finally done away with ornamentalism. “They don’t even want to pretend that have anything to do with Article 370. I remember how during election campaign it was all about Article 370, and how all others are BJP. And now the ideological overlap,” he said. He said the LG’s address was a visionless statement of the government. “And if this address was a vision statement of the government, it is as visionless as it can get. It is a generalised departmental statement without any new political, social or economic initiative. So be prepared for an aimless, visionless spell of governance, bereft of any newness in approach or any creativity,” he said—(KNO)

PDP Pushes for July 13 Martyrs’ Day Holiday in J&K Assembly

Jammu, Mar 2: PDP supremo Mehbooba Mufti has urged the party’s three legislators to ensure that a resolution seeking a holiday in memory of the July 13 martyrs is the first to be passed during the budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. July 13 was observed as a public holiday in Jammu and Kashmir to commemorate the 22 men who fell to the bullets of the Dogra maharaja’s soldiers outside Srinagar central jail in 1931. The holiday was, however, scrapped by the lieutenant governor-led administration following the 2019 abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sources said former chief minister Mehbooba asked her party’s legislators to garner support for the resolution to push for a holiday in memory of the July 13 martyrs during the session, scheduled to begin on Monday. However, it was not immediately clear if any PDP MLA had moved a resolution to the Assembly Secretariat, seeking declaration of July 13 as an official holiday to remember the sacrifices of the protestors. The PDP wants the House to remember July 13 as the beginning of the political awakening of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for democratic rights, the sources said. July 13 holds significant historical importance in Kashmir as it marks the day in 1931 when 22 Kashmiris were martyred during a protest against the “oppressive rule” of the Dogra monarchy, according to Mehbooba. A PDP leader said, “These martyrs are remembered for their resistance against colonial and autocratic rule, symbolising the Kashmiris’ long-standing struggle for democracy and constitutional rights.” “However, the day, which was traditionally observed as a holiday to honour the martyrs, faced a gradual erasure from public memory, especially under the Union Territory administration,” he said, adding that the holiday was eventually revoked, reflecting a deliberate attempt to downplay its significance. The PDP looks at the decision, which sparked widespread resentment, as part of a “broader effort” to alter the region’s political narrative and suppress historical symbols of democratic struggle, he said. Restoring recognition for the day holds deep symbolic value for Kashmiris, reaffirming their history and craving for democratic rights, the PDP leader said. He claimed that, on the party’s directions, a PDP MLA had submitted a resolution to put the facts right and seek the restoration of July 13 as a gazetted holiday in Jammu and Kashmir, as it was before August 2019. NC Slams PDP-BJP ‘Games,’ Says Plans B & C Ready if Statehood Not Restored

Srinagar, Mar 01 (KNO): National Conference (NC) on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of playing games “collectively”and trying to sabotage the issues which touch the skin of a common man. NC Chief Spokesperson, Tanvir Sadiq while talking to reporters here as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, the party has kept plan B and plan C in place in case the statehood is not restored. “Both PDP and BJP were in the government previously, but they failed to take any step with regard to banning alcohol. They are collectively playing games and hampering the public works,” Replying to a query about Mehbooba seeking support on bills including alcohol ban, he asked why she didn’t take all these steps when she was in the power, adding that the present situation is the outcome of her rule and had she followed the rules properly, Article 370 wouldn’t have gone. “We will ask them why they didn’t take all these measures in the last ten years when they were busy in giving shawls and ensuring the implementation of acts like GST and others,” he said. About the government’s plans to press for the restoration of statehood, he said they are hopeful that it will be restored as the Prime Minister and Home Minister have given assurances in this regard while the Supreme Court too has passed the directions about its restoration. “Why should we beleive that it will not be restored. However, Omar Sahab has stated that we have plan B and C in place too in case the statehood is not restored,” he added. Moreover, he said that NC has full majority and whatever it has mentioned in the manifesto will be fulfilled, adding that they don’t need the sermons from anyone—(KNO)
