A tragic incident has been reported from Paryote village in Doda district, where a 17-year-old Class 12 student was found dead shortly after the declaration of examination results.
The deceased has been identified as 17-year-old Revansh Sharma, son of Bal Krishan from Paryote village in the Bhaderwah area. Initial reports indicate he was distressed after failing in one subject “Ecnomics” in the recently declared Class 12th results. He was alone at home at the time, and when his sister returned, she found him unresponsive. He was shifted for medico-legal formalities, where doctors declared him dead.
While Police have taken cognizance of the matter, and further investigation is underway but at the same time, the emerging culture of result-day “glamour” around toppers driven by social media pages, hyper-active coaching centres, and hurried celebratory journalism needs serious questioning.
The continuous display of ranks, topper photoshoots, and comparison charts turns education into a spectacle. This “toppers-only” obsession ignores thousands of average or struggling students, damages self-worth, and pushes vulnerable children into anxiety, isolation, and despair.
NewsEye believes that education must be about learning and growth not public ranking and mental pressure.
