Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday visited the residence of veteran journalist Tariq Ahmad Bhat, who passed away yesterday. Bhat, who served as the J&K Bureau Chief of The Week magazine, and founder of NewsEye was widely respected for his decades-long contribution to journalism in the region.
During his visit, Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the senior journalist and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. He recalled Bhat’s professionalism, integrity, and commitment to fair reporting, describing him as “a voice of reason and credibility in the field of journalism.”
Several journalists, colleagues, and members of the media fraternity also paid rich tributes to Tariq Ahmad Bhat, remembering his significant role in shaping public discourse and highlighting issues of social and political importance in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bhat’s passing has left a deep void in the journalistic community of the Valley. He is remembered as a mentor, guide, and an inspiration to many young journalists who followed in his footsteps.
