The Kashmir plains have been receiving continuous rainfall since Thursday evening, while the higher reaches witnessed fresh snowfall.
Due to the weather, schools in several areas were closed, and traffic on the Mughal Road and Gurez Road was suspended following heavy snowfall.
The Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and snowfall (in higher reaches) across most parts of the Valley. Isolated areas may receive heavy rainfall and snowfall until late evening on Sunday.
Weather conditions are expected to improve from April 22. However, general cloudiness is likely to persist until around April 25.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has advised farmers to suspend all farm operations until the afternoon of April 21.
Apart from rain and snow, the current weather system may also bring thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms, potentially damaging seasonal crops.
Authorities have warned of an increased risk of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas. Residents have been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms and lightning to ensure their safety. —(NewsEye)
