Former RAW chief A.S. Dulat clarifies explosive comments regarding National Conference (NC) patriarch Farooq Abdullah’s stance on the abrogation of Article 370 in his book (The Chief Minister and The Spy). The statement, which has stirred political storm in Kashmir since its release this morning, claiming that Abdullah privately supported the 2019 move while publicly condemning it as a “betrayal.” However, Dulat has now refuted the interpretation of his words, labeling it as a “misunderstanding” and asserting that his remarks were “misinterpreted”.
Speaking Exclusivly to the Voice Tv Urdu, Dulat said,
Farooq Abdullah was deeply affected by the abrogation. He was asking, ‘What happened to us?’ He never supported or even indicated support for the abrogation of Article 370, and to suggest otherwise is a misinterpretation of my statement in the book. His position on the issue has been falsely portrayed.”
When questioned about the meeting between Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi prior to the decision, Dulat added, “As far as I know, the PM did not inform them about the impending move. There was no prior communication, and the meeting did not involve any discussion about the abrogation.”
Dulat further said that his previous statement, as mentioned in his book, had been misinterpreted. “My words are being misinterpreted. What is being done ia a ‘badmashi,’ a deceitful act. Farooq Abdullah was completely unaware of the Centre’s plans, and the entire episode left him shocked.”
This revelation comes as a significant clarification amidst the ongoing debate over the political developments in Kashmir, while NC has already labeled the statement as fictional.(NewsEye)
