A wave of political outrage and grief has followed today’s brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed “the life of one tourist and injured Twelve others” (PTI). The incident, which occurred in the picturesque Baisaran area, has drawn strong condemnation from prominent leaders across Jammu and Kashmir.
Home Minister, Amit Shah talking to “X” wrote “Anguished by the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with the family members of the deceased. Those involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences.”
“Briefed PM Shri @narendramodi Ji about the incident and held a meeting with the concerned officials via video conferencing. Will shortly leave for Srinagar to hold an urgent security review meeting with all the agencies.” He added
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly” and “despicable” act. “Those behind this attack will not go unpunished,” he vowed in a statement, confirming that Army and J&K Police teams have launched extensive search operations in the area.
Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference, described the attack as an “abomination.” Expressing shock, he said the perpetrators were “inhuman” and “worthy of contempt.” Abdullah also confirmed that his colleague had reached the hospital to coordinate treatment for the injured, and that he was flying back to Srinagar to personally oversee the situation.
The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP), through its official handle, quoted its president Mehbooba Mufti condemning the attack. “This senseless violence serves no purpose and only brings pain. There can be no justification for such acts,” the statement read.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, also condemned the attack in strong terms. “Deeply disturbing news from Pahalgam of a cowardly attack on tourists that has resulted in tragic loss of life. Such violence is unacceptable and against the ethos of Kashmir which welcomes visitors with love and warmth. Condemn it strongly. Thoughts and prayers with the families of victims and wishing speedy recovery to the injured,” he wrote.
Sajad Lone, president of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference, issued one of the strongest condemnations. He described the attackers as “the worst enemies of Kashmiris” who were attempting to destroy the Valley’s legacy of hospitality and derail the revival of the tourism sector. “These terror attacks are aimed at yet again disempowering us economically,” he said, adding that they were a curse on the present and future generations.
Altaf Bukhari, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it an act of cowardice and one of the worst forms of terrorism. “Targeting innocent tourists is an act of cowardice,” he said, adding that he was confident the perpetrators would be swiftly brought to justice. He extended his prayers to the injured and their families.
The attack has not only shocked the local population but also raised concerns about the impact on tourism, which had only recently begun to recover after years of instability.
As security forces continue to comb the area in pursuit of the attackers, political and civil society voices have united in calling for peace, justice, and resilience in the face of this tragic incident.(NewsEye)
