Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday lauded the Supreme Court of India for bringing a halt to the modifications of the Waqf Act.
The court’s interim stay has brough relief among several quarters, including political and religious groups who had opposed the recent changes.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Omar Abdullah wrote,
The observations from the Hon SC & subsequent climbdown by the Union Government have reinforced our belief that we were correct in our decision to approach the Highest Court in the land to challenge the Waqf bill.”
“We hope the court will deliver a comprehensive judgement that addresses all the concerns of the Muslim community,” Omar added.
The Chief Minister had earlier expressed his dismay and resentment over the bill and had announced his decision to approach the Supreme Court. However, he has now expressed his faith and hope in the Hon’ble Supreme Court to address the issues of Muslim community.
A final verdict will depend on further hearings, scheduled to resume early next month. —(NewsEye)
