Pulwama CEO Acts Against Friday Half-Days, Cites Govt Calendar Violation

NewsEye Desk

The Office of the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Pulwama has issued a formal notice to three educational institutions—Hajjahad Public School Awantipora, Dolphin International School Tengpuna Pulwama, and Delhi Modern Public School Krencoo Pampore Pulwama—for observing unauthorized half-day holidays on Fridays.

The notice, issued on April 15, 2025, cites a visit to various examination centres on April 11 during the conduct of the JNV Special Test, where it was found that these institutions had been observing Friday half-days without any formal approval or sanction from the competent authority.

Describing the practice as a violation of the Government-notified Holiday Calendar, the order states that it “contravenes the norms governing the functioning of educational institutions.” It further emphasizes that all government and government-recognized private institutions are expected to adhere strictly to the holiday schedule as well as the academic calendar and prescribed working hours issued by the administrative authorities.

The CEO has directed the school heads to explain their position within one day, failing which it will be deemed that they have “nothing to say in their defence,” and action under rules shall be initiated against them. The schools have also been advised to discontinue the practice of Friday half-day holidays forthwith.

Copies of the order have been forwarded to the Director School Education, Kashmir; the Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama; and all heads of government and private institutions in the district, with the instruction to ensure “strict adherence to the academic and holiday calendar issued by the government.”
