Srinagar, April 16: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has reacted strongly to the recent violence in Murshidabad over the Wakf Amendment Bill, terming the incident tragic and deeply disturbing.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mufti expressed her concern over the loss of innocent lives and the unrest that followed despite assurances from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“Deeply disturbed by the tragic violence in Murshidabad over the wakf Amendment Bill where innocent lives were lost. It is particularly concerning that despite Mamta di’s assurance that this bill would not be implemented in West Bengal protests erupted,” she wrote.
She urged the community to focus its energy on constructive means and uphold constitutional rights through lawful ways.
“As a community we must channelise our energies constructively- upholding our constitutional rights through peaceful and lawful means. We must avoid actions that could weaken our allies who stand with us often at a great personal and political cost,” she said.
Mufti also stressed the need for unity and caution in the face of divisive agendas. “We must remain united and vigilant and not allow communal forces to exploit these moments to push their divisive agenda of further disempowering and marginalising our community,” her post added.
