In response to the unrest triggered by an objectionable social media post, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Doda, Harvinder Singh, has urged the public to maintain calm and communal harmony, assuring that strict legal action is being taken against the accused.
Deputy Commissioner Doda, Conforming to NewsEye said,
A post was done yesterday by an individual—a video from Uttar Pradesh—which sparked tensions. The moment we received the complaint, we booked the individual and the case will be dealt as per the law.
The post, which deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the one community in Bhaderwah, led to protests in the area demanding action against the individual. As a precautionary measure, circulation of objectionable statements and videos were controlled by regulating Internet in the town to prevent the spread of further misinformation and to ease tensions.
“We know the post has hurt religious sentiments of a community, but there is a need to unite against hate mongering especially when all communities collectively celebrated month long Ramzan followed by Eid and Navratras are going on with an assurance that administration and law enforcement agencies will deal with the case. We request people to maintain peace, law and order and communal harmony”, The DC added.
A senior police official told NewsEye that an FIR has been registered against the person responsible for uploading the offensive content. “Action as warranted under law shall take its due course,” the official said.
Reliable sources confirmed that members of the Muslim community demanded strict action, leading to immediate intervention by authorities.
Officials also appealed to the public to avoid sharing or forwarding any messages or videos that could inflame communal passions.(NewsEye)
