Kulgam, 26 MAR: In a decisive move against the drug menace, Kulgam Police have attached properties worth over ₹1.5 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler in Qazigund under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
As per details available with the NewsEye, authorities have seized two double-storied residential houses owned by Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Jabbar Ganie, a resident of Nassu Badragund, Qazigund.
The properties, measuring 1271 sq. ft. and 764 sq. ft., are situated on land bearing Khasra No. 427 min at Nassu Badragund. The attachment follows an investigation into FIR No. 103/2024 under Section 68 of the NDPS Act.
According to police records, Reyaz Ahmad Ganie has been actively involved in drug peddling, with multiple cases registered against him, including:
FIR No. 310/2015 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act
FIR No. 103/2024 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act
Furthermore, his brother Bilal Ahmad Ganie has also been booked under FIR No. 64/2023 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act, after a significant quantity of narcotics was recovered from him.
Authorities confirmed that both residential properties were acquired through the proceeds of illegal drug trade. In accordance with Sections 68E and 68F of the NDPS Act, the seized properties cannot be transferred, sold, or dealt with in any manner without prior approval from the competent authority.
This crackdown highlights the relentless efforts of department in uprooting the drug trade and dismantling its economic backbone. The action serves as a stern warning to those involved in narcotics trafficking, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to a drug-free society.
