₹75 Set as Sadaqat-ul-Fitr, Grand Mufti Urges Timely Paying

The Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, has announced that the mandatory Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (Zakat al-Fitr) for this year has been set at ₹75 per person.

Speaking to the media, Mufti Nasir underscored the obligation upon every Muslim—men, women, and even infants—to pay Sadaqat-ul-Fitr before Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

He stressed that this pre-Eid charity ensures that the underprivileged can celebrate the festival with dignity.

The prescribed amount, equivalent to 1.75 kg of wheat per person, has been valued at ₹75 following consultations with Islamic scholars. He clarified that parents must contribute on behalf of their minor children, while financially independent adults should pay for themselves.

Describing Sadaqat-ul-Fitr as both a means of purifying one’s fast and a support for those in need, the Grand Mufti emphasized that the contribution should strictly reach deserving recipients—such as orphans, the poor, and stranded travelers. He explicitly stated that it should not be diverted for mosque expenses, religious institutions, or political purposes.

Mufti Nasir urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to fulfill this religious duty promptly and ensure their donations benefit those who truly need them.
